You might just be eligible for a significant discount, depending on the size and species of the tree you have.
Unfortunately (I say unfortunately because more tree companies need to be doing this) we are the only tree company in Melbourne that makes furniture using the wood salvaged from job sites and supplies local furniture manufacturers and builders.
There is a supplies shortage of exotic timbers in Melbourne and for the last few months we've had a lot of requests for various sized boards/planks/posts/slabs that might just happen to be in the tree you're looking to remove. Given the increase in demand, we are happy to reduce our tree removal prices on particular species such as Oak (English, Algerian, Dutch, She, Silky and Pin Oak), Lemon Scented Gum, Jarrah, Salmon Gum, Iron Bark, Elm, Blackwood, fruit trees, Liquidambar, Birch, Beech, Ash, Acer negundo, Cedar, Cypress and Radiata Pine.
Typically how we go about doing this is to dismantle the tree, remove the foliage and use a crane truck to pick up the log and bring it back to our yard to be processed using our sawmill. If you have a tree in mind that is hard to access, don't stress! We have a portable mill (Lucas Mill) that is easily transportable and can be setup in most back yards to get the maximum yield from the log.
We offer discounts on small trees as well (it's still practical for us to mill some logs as small as 1ft in diameter), and in some cases we have been able to save homeowners up to 60% on the cost of removing trees because we can on sell the lumber.
